Transforming the care experience

The challenge

Finland has offered excellent public health care to its citizens, but the population is ageing and costs are increasing.

Virtual Hospital 2.0 elevated the customer to the center and improved the quality and availability of health care while keeping the costs and working time in control.

The solution

We are supporting an operational change in the health sector instead of just digitalizing old services or providing new services within the old service framework. This is done by building 3 levels of services under the brand Health Village (Terveyskylä.fi):

1) for all general public, 2) patients, and 3) professionals – and a system and it-platform to easily develop them for new patient groups.

The services have been built by 1,500 health care professionals plus IT-, data- and communications professionals from the university hospitals together with patients.

The results

We are building revolution of health and wellbeing services with digital means. We anticipate improved quality of care and a significant amount of health care capacity freed - over one billion euros during the first five years of full operation.

Already:

  • ca 600 000 visits to the open websites every month, and the amount is increasing. In Finland there are 4,6 million 15 + year olds, potential Health Village visitors
  • 115 digital care paths for different patient groups are being built, over 50 already in use
  • symptom navigators (certified medical devices), chatbots, self care paths, remote services etc
